A New Coffee Shop Owned By A Veteran Is Coming To Metamora! The Buzz Is It’s Dog-Friendly!

Similar to their Lapeer location, the new location also welcomes pets and offers them their favorite toys and treats.

Doghouse Coffee has been preparing to expand its footprint to Metamora, after succeeding at its Leeper location which amazed overwhelming responses from the community.

Doghouse Coffee is a dog-friendly coffee shop owned by Don Wingard, a proud veteran, and his wife & co-owner Ulyana Wingard, originally from Ukraine, who became a proud US citizen in the late 2000s. Both Wingard and Ulyana have a shared passion for animal welfare. The couple also has two rescue dogs, a Pitbull, and a Golden Doodle.

Before starting his own coffee brand, Wingard thrived as a co-owner in a successful coffee company from 2019 to 2022, where he developed an ardent interest in coffee. Soon, he opened his own coffee company last year, at 454 West Nepessing Street, Lapeer, Michigan, 48446. Being a pet lover, Wingard wished his coffee shop to be a place where people could sit and relax with their beloved pets. ‘Pet-friendly coffee shop’ inspired many and drove the business’s sales both online and offline to the next level.

Wingard said that the Lapeer location had done well. And, the community supported them quite a bit. Their online sales and wholesale were also on an upward trajectory.

He stated, “It is a great opportunity for us and the community. There are no coffee shops anywhere close to this area. So we are hoping to bring something cool to the cool little town and keep everyone caffeinated.

Metamora Doghouse Coffee Location

The coffee shop is located at 15 Barrows Street, Metamora, and is reachable within a 15-minute drive up the road from Lapeer. The shop secured a space in a building that became the village’s first newly constructed building in 65 years and will share the space with two or three businesses.

Metamora Doghouse Coffee will have all kinds of espresso drinks, lattes, java, and coffee – both iced-hot, around the year.

Wingard aims to bring the same atmosphere of their first location to the newest location too. Similar to their Lapeer location, the new location also welcomes pets and offers them their favorite toys and treats.

The Metamora Doghouse Coffee shop will feature high- & low-top tables, armchairs, and couches for indoor seating and picnic tables and umbrellas with some music for outdoor seating. The shop can seat up to 30 people comfortably.

On their menu, Metamora Doghouse Coffee will have all kinds of espresso drinks, lattes, java, and coffee – both iced-hot, around the year. Along with drinks, the shop will have some delicious pastries and bagel bombs to satisfy the community’s sweet cravings. They will also serve their signature drinks such as “The Snoopy,” “Fur Missile,” “The Woodstock,” “Off The Leash,” “Goodest Dog,” and many more.

Future of Metamora Doghouse Coffee

In the future, Wingard and Ulyana have planned to feature horses in the shop’s theme, as horses hold an important position in the village.

In addition to this, Wingard has noted that many of their customers come in with their laptops and phones. He felt it necessary for multiple outlets with USB ports to fulfill their power needs.

It will be a very warm and cozy feel for a lot of people. It’s very popular in Lapeer, so we decided to double up on that here,” Ulyana said.

Both locations will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. seven days a week.

Online Venture!

Doghouse Coffee is also doing wonders online. They have been selling whole coffee beans and ground coffee by the bag, both in person and online.

The speciality of Doghouse Coffee is that they are being sourced globally – like from Ethiopia, Sumatra, Costa Rica, and many others, offering 12 different flavors

According to the owner, Rise ‘n Shine breakfast blend, which is a medium roast with a mix of Costa Rican and Guatemalan beans, has been the top-selling flavor, among the rest. He said that it has a clean finish with hints of citrus, nuts, and chocolate.

Recently, the couple has released a new roast that they believe will become the new favorite. Named ‘Top Bean,’ it is prepared with a single-origin Brazilian medium roast with a unique flavor of chocolate, caramel, nougat, and a little bit of nut.
