Black-Owned Detroit Rosa Cafe Is Opening Its Second Shop At Residences at Water Square

This new establishment will also be offering Detroit Rosa’s signature house blend coffee with a wide range of grab-and-go snacks and other ready-to-eat food items.

Though the city of Detroit is already home to many cafes and roasters, the future occupants of Residences at Water Square, in particular, are going to have a new destination to savor their favorite coffees at their lobby itself. Well, this shop is the second location of Detroit Rosa Cafe owned by Charity Dean, who is also the president of the Michigan Black Business Alliance.

The new establishment, Rosa Café + Market is a boutique cafe, combining cafe and market. The special thing about the cafe is that it is a black-owned and fully women-owned cafe.

Dean started her venture in 2022, by opening the doors to her first location in Grandmont Rosedale. She named the shop after her great-grandmother Rosa Malone, who was the first and proud Black Homeowner in the Rosedale Park region, where she successfully lived for 46 years while fighting against racism, as stated on her website.

Nearly two years after the opening of Detroit Rosa, Dean has now announced her second location at 9180 Grand River Ave Detroit, MI 48223. Situated within the striking 25-storey glass luxury apartment building, it will occupy a prime spot in the lower-level atrium of about 800-square-foot space, overlooking the Detroit River and the city’s iconic RiverWalk. It will have both indoor and outdoor settings with a stunning view of the picturesque riverfront.

Dean has scheduled the opening date for Rosa Cafe + market for a summer debut. She is planning to open for both the Water Square residents and the public. Currently, the space is in the build-out phase.

Dean expressed in a news release, “Our brand is deeply rooted in the community and honing on its authentic Detroit heritage. This new location allows us to continue our legacy while embracing fresh opportunities as a Black business located on the riverfront.”

What Is Up At Detroit Rosa?

This new establishment will also be offering Detroit Rosa’s signature house blend coffee with a wide range of grab-and-go snacks and other ready-to-eat food items. The coffee served at Detroit Rosa is sourced from Black-owned Faust Haus, located in Detroit’s Eastern Market, which specializes in coffee from across the African diaspora.

In addition to this geographical expansion, Detroit Rosa has expanded its offerings at its Grandmont establishment to provide various cocktails, including espresso martinis, Irish Coffees, Mimosas, etc…

The Sterling Group, which oversees the Residences at Water described Rosa Café + Market as “a welcome addition.”
